As a multimedia journalist for Mid-West Family, your job is to find and share stories that matter in Southwest Michigan. That means paying attention to what’s happening in our communities, developing relationships with news sources, asking lots of questions, and looking beyond press releases to find the origin stories of public interest topics. This person is team-focused and works seamlessly alongside a great crew that develops and delivers exclusive content, bringing interesting topics and people to light for the benefit of the public.
The role requires flexibility, attention to detail, objective and critical thinking, and a willingness to bring your life experience to news storytelling.
Required for Success:
- An innate sense of curiosity with urgency
- Storytelling creativity while sticking to the facts
- Sick computer skills
- Ability to contribute ideas, collaborate, and take editorial direction
- Strict adherence to journalism standards and time-driven deadlines
- A desire to share relevant, informative, timely, and engaging stories across multiple platforms
As a multimedia journalist with Mid-West Family, flexible hours are sometimes required because news can happen at any time. You will perform interviews, attend meetings, and gather audio/video content for use in news stories shared across multiple platforms.
